Marketing by email
can be a very effective way of getting repeat business from
established customers, but it is not usually very effective
for getting new customers. The reason for this is simple.
You have to have a list of emails to send your email campaign
to. The only way you can get this list ethically is to build
it over time yourself with emails of visitors to your website
that have volunteered their email addresses. Purchasing email
lists from third parties would could get you new customers,
but sending emails to the addresses on that list would be
considered spamming. That is obviously not considered ethical.
One thing you really want to make sure you do if you are
going to employ email marketing is to make sure that your
emails have been requested. Do not simply purchase lists of
emails from a third party. This is a really good way to turn
off your new potential customer quickly. Make sure you give
your site visitors a conspicuous place on your website to
sign up for your emails or newsletters. Equally as important,
make sure you give them an easy way to unsubscribe as well.
You don't want your customers to feel like you are spamming
them.
If you have a list of customer email addresses already, but
customers have not given you their email address to use for
marketing emails specifically, it is only acceptable for you
to use those email addresses in your first email campaign
if your email marketing campaign is brand new, but only if
you give those who received the emails an easy way to quickly
unsubscribe if they desire to.
