A major element in any search engine optimization strategy
has got to be increased link popularity. What is link popularity?
Link popularity is simply the number of websites (ideally,
sites related to yours) that link to your site. The more sites
that link to yours, the better your link popularity will be.
The better your link popularity is, the more Google will reward
you with higher rankings.
Not only will Google reward you for your link popularity,
but you also have an increased chance of visitors finding
your site with such referrals. These referrals need to be
legitimate. Don't be tempted to artificially inflate your
link popularity with link farms or any other "bad neighborhoods"
as Google refers to them for the purpose of gaining link popularity.
This will actually do more harm than good.
Page rank is another issue to concern yourself over when
it comes to link popularity. Links from sites with higher
page rank are far more valuable than links from low ranking
sites. Some sites with high page rank charge $20 to $300 per
link to put a link on their site to yours because of the value
of such a link.
So how does one go about developing page rank legitimately?
Make friends in the internet community and ask them to link
to your site, page, or article. This can be a time consuming
undertaking, but it is a good place to start. Social networking
sites are a great way to do this more efficiently. Also, recommendation
sites such as Digg.com are another way to develop link popularity.
Write an article or have a professional write an article for
you, then post it on your website. Next, join recommendation
site like Digg and submit your article. Members will vote
on your article, and if it is good it could place well giving
it lots of exposure. People will often link to good articles
found on Digg and others. Search engines will also find a
link to your article, giving you yet another outside link.
