Let's
communicate your message!
OK, the next step after honing a perfect business concept
is communicating it articulately to your customer. This is
where you let them know that you have what they are looking
for. So how do you go about doing this? Well, of course with
an online business your vehicle is going to be your web site.
"How
Ordinary People Make Extraordinary Money Online!"
explains how to set up your web site quickly and effectively
to communicate your message to qualified customers all over
the world! There is no more powerful way to get your product
or service in front of the people who are looking for it than
with the internet. "How Ordinary People Make Extraordinary
Money Online!" will show you how it's done!
A Simple Explanation Of How A Web Site Works:
There are several steps that anyone building a website will
face. The first two things you must do in setting up your
website are a) give your website
a unique identity, and b) give
people a place to find your website. Both the identity of
your website and the "location" are determined with
one single aspect: the domain name.
Cool, eh? Imagine that your first name told everyone exactly
who you were and where you could be found. That is what a
domain name does.
A domain name is a unique
designation that is registered with the domain registry. Amazon.com
is a domain name. So is ebay.com. You must choose a unique
domain name that will serve as your business's identity and
the location of your website. Your domain will connect your
visitors to the files that make up your website, which will
be hosted (stored) on a remote
server that can be accessed at any time. We will discuss hosting
in just a moment.
Next, you will create the files that make up your web site.
Your visitors will use an application called a browser (Internet
Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.) to view these special files.
Browsers are programs that are designed to translate lines
of certain kinds of code into beautiful pages of information.
These particular codes include HTML,
XHTML, XML, Javascript, and others. Your web pages can be
created by hand typing them in one or more of these codes,
but most individuals prefer to use an "wysiwyg"
("what you see is what you get") application like
Dreamweaver to assemble their
pages in an interface that allows us to view the assembly
similar to the way we will eventually see them in a browswer.
After our page and image files are all created and we have
a website, we need to put the files someplace where they can
be accessed by viewers at any time. This is done with a hosting
service. A hosting service
is simply a company that you pay to store your files on a
server that is always connected to the internet. A server
is basically a computer without a monitor that is used to
store files. Your website could not exist in "cyber-space"
without a server storing your files. Viewers enter your site's
domain name (remember, it is like an address) which is assigned
to the location where your files are on that server where
your site is being hosted.
Once your homepage is accessed by the viewer, their browser
translates the code on that page into the beautiful and informative
page you have designed!
